Acne is a more common problem for people than you might think. While comparatively few adults suffer the condition compared to teenagers and young adults, many people are forced to live with the acne scars of their youth forever. It can be very embarrassing to be an adult with severe acne scarring. Fortunately, there are several ways to get rid of acne scarring.

The first option and the one that most people first turn to is to use topical creams or medications. While this can sometimes be effective in dealing with acne scars, it tends to not work very well on the more severe cases. For really bad acne scarring, some combination of skin resurfacing and surgical procedures are performed.

Generally speaking, topical creams and medicines are more effective against acne that currently exists or has recently started healing. Proper treatment can help prevent acne scars from showing up at all, since the body is actually quite adept at fixing up it’s own skin.

If you have severe acne scarring, it is time to consider stronger methods, such as dermal fillers or some kinds of excision procedures. These methods can work very effectively to get rid of acne scars. But they are much more intensive than just using creams of medication.

People who have a fear of needles should probably stay away from dermal fillers. This procedure requires that a sort of false skin that is made from human or animal skin, and can be injected into the scarred area. This procedure fades over time and needs to be redone, but reduces the appearance of scarring.

Excisions are surgical procedures in which a doctor will actually cut away all of the scarred tissue, and then suture healthy skin over it.
